Write like a Babylonian!

Go to the following website to inscribe your initials in Babylonian cuneiform. Make sure to type your name and then your initials (only the first letters of your first and last name). Next, write down the symbols for your initials on a piece of paper. You'll be carving these into the clay tablet tomorrow.

The Cave of Lascaux

The Lascaux cave was discovered in 1940 by four teenagers. The cave is located in the Bordeaux region of France on the river Vézère. There are more than 100 Paleolithic caves in the region. The paintings within these caves help us understand the world that early Homo Sapiens lived in. Click on the following link and take a trip 17,000 years into our past:

The Hall of Hominids Project!

As a group you will research the various stages of the advancement of humans and pool your findings to create an exhibit chronicling the events that took place as hominids changed from their earliest simple existence to their existence today.
Your exhibit will be on display for the entire school to see in the 6th grade commons and our classroom. You are creating a museum exhibit for HTM.

Welcome to High Tech Middle!

This year you will be a part of the Costa/Shaddox Team. Ms. Costa will be your math and science teacher and Mr. Shaddox will be your humanities teacher.

Get ready to embark on a journey. We’d like you to see your education as your own personal adventure. It is your chance to explore how the world works and how you will navigate your way.

Throughout this year, we will be your guides. We will help you gain the skills and experience you need to be fully prepared for the seventh grade. With this adventure comes responsibility. We expect you to take full responsibility for your learning, your behavior and your belongings. We have high expectations for you and we will encourage you to challenge yourself and to enjoy the adventure.

Here's an overview of what we will be doing for the first 2 weeks:

Building Our Community
Students will get to know classmates and prepare to be successful in the 6th grade. Activities will include team-building activities, classroom procedures, current events and an introduction to our writing skills program.

Literature: City of Ember
Students will explore themes that build a foundation for social studies and learn active reading strategies through a class reading of The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau.
